The impact of the Trump Administration's Neo-mercantilistic Policies on Chinese Multinationals

In recent decades, the United States has pursued unilateralist policies at the international level due to its prominent position in the economic, political, security, and military arenas. This trend has become especially notable during the Trump presidency, pushing US foreign and economic policy towards neomercantilism. In this regard, Trump's actions have had widespread effects on international trade and economic relations, especially on Chinese multinational corporations. Analyzing the Trump administration's neo-mercantilist policies and examining their effects on Chinese multinational corporations is essential for a better understanding of the consequences of unilateralist policies in the field of international political economy. This article aimed to examine the impact of the Trump administration's neo-mercantilist policies on the activities of Chinese multinational corporations. The main question of the article was: What impact has the Trump administration's neo-mercantilist policy had on the activities of Chinese multinational corporations? This research was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method and library tools, scientific journals, reputable websites, theses, and scientific articles were used. The findings show that the neo-mercantilistic policies of the Trump administration during his first term (2017 to 2021), through the control of competitors, protectionist attitudes, and the imposition of economic and political sanctions, have hurt the activities of Chinese multinational companies and have led to a decrease in their incomeږ.
